Fans want more Tests for Hussey
Cricket lovers have rallied behind the besieged 34-year-old batsman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with only 25 per cent of fans in an exclusive Herald Sun survey saying he should retire from Test cricket.
After a poor 12 months at Test level where his average dropped from above 70 to 52.65 - and calls for his sacking from former players,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including Dean Jones - it might be the shot of confidence Hussey needs to re-ignite his Test career.
Lee,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 33, who has not played a Test since last year's Boxing Day match against South Africa at the MCG,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is considering walking away from the five-day game after his latest injury setback.
But fans are not entirely convinced about new Test spearhead Mitchell Johnson.
Johnson may have been voted the international cricketer of the year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but only 19 per cent of Australians say he is the world's best Test bowler - with South African quick Dale Steyn (38 per cent) and Sri Lankan spinner Muthiah Muralidaran (20 per cent) coming in ahead of him.
While fans may not be sure about Johnson,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they are convinced that young opener Phillip Hughes has a huge future in a baggy green cap.
Seventy per cent say Hughes was harshly treated when he was axed after the second Ashes Test in England,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Skipper Ricky Ponting also wants Hughes back in the side when he regains form,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"From the moment he (Hughes) was dropped in England,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we have been talking about that (getting Hughes back in the side),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Ponting said. "There is no doubt that he has got a huge future left in him for Australia."
As the debate about Australia's spin stocks continues,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 21 per cent of fans have plumped for New South Wales leg-spinner Steve Smith to be our next star. The 20-year-old impressed in Australian colours against the All Stars in the Twenty20 exhibition match in Brisbane on Sunday.
Victorian Bryce McGain has dropped off the radar,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Ponting remains Australia's fan favourite,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with 56 per cent saying he is the best batsman in world cricket, ahead of Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakarra (11 per cent).
And in an unexpected revelation about the state of the game,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], most fans prefer one-day games over Twenty20 matches as the prime form of limited-overs cricket.
Only 19 per cent of fans say Twenty20s should take over from 50-over matches,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while only 20 per cent of fans say Twenty20 cricket will become the No. 1 form of the game.
