Temat postu: Browns Insider Theres no shortage of members for T
The Browns' offensive line is loaded now with eight players who have at least 16 NFL starts in their career. Last week, Browns GM said it can be argued that the line is the strength of the entire team.
So we asked line coach to play word association with his line and say what comes first to mind when we named names.
.
Marshall: "Consistent."
.
"Inconsistent [laughing]. Nah, athletic."
.
"Pro."
.
"We're learning exactly what he can do. He's a true pro."
.
"A worker."
.
"When he's healthy, he's the best we've got ... absolutely."
That last comment may FOOTBALL IS THE BEST SPORT surprise some. Tucker was considered the team's best lineman while the unit wasn't nearly as strong. At 33, he obviously is still held in high esteem by the coaches, who graded him highly at right guard last year.
Tucker is still rehabbing from hip surgery in June. He is hoping to return to practice sometime in August.
He's everywhere: The most tired player after Tuesday's practice had to be .
In addition to his usual full load on special teams, Cribbs took extra turns on offense and spent at least four plays lined up at quarterback. Each time Cribbs took a direct snap out of the shotgun formation and ran with it -- a play opponents saw several times last year.
So far, Cribbs hasn't dropped back and thrown a pass, but it's coming.
"I feel empowered when I'm at quarterback," Cribbs said. "It's a great feeling. I love it. I'm telling the coaches to give me a wristband with the plays on it."
Practice ended with Cribbs running a deep slant and taking a pass to the end zone.
"I love it. I'm half-tired but that's football," Cribbs said. "I'm going to hate it when it's over. I'm going to miss it to death. So I'm soaking it up and I'm enjoying myself playing football."
Dog days: Because of their herky jerky preseason schedule, the Browns have one game over the next 20 days. This will be the true grind of training camp.
"You've got to mention 20 days, huh?" exclaimed linebacker . "We just have to approach it day by day. You can't do away with it. This is when we get better."
Coach acknowledged the grind ahead.
"This is a little time in camp that they're sore. They're a little tired, feeling sorry for themselves a little bit," he said. "So I talked about having to push through it.
"We have 10 days between [the first two exhibition games], so I think the thing there is maintaining their focus and concentration. So we can introduce some things to keep it from being Why do we love football so much? monotonous."
The Browns get a welcome change in routine by practicing in Cleveland Browns Stadium for Family Night on Friday, and then get the next day off.
Tidbits: Tight end was held out for only the second time in 10 practices ... Defensive lineman also was held out by Crennel, who said there was no injury reason ... Former coach Butch Davis used to alternate offense and defense having to wear dark jerseys during training camp. But the defense gets no break from Crennel. "Because they have to run more overall, so it doesn't hurt them to sweat more," he said.
On national radar: The crew from Sirius NFL Radio will broadcast for four hours live from camp today. The Browns will be highlighted on "Movin' the Chains" from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with hosts Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan.
