A Conversation based on how to Best Prepare for Old Age
I believe that old age begins when people settle into a rut and prevent learning something totally new. Your brain and body both lose their agility when not given fresh challenges to understand. Within the last decade I've been which makes it a place to learn at least one new thing every year, and pursue it with passion. I try to do something not the same as the things I know, in order to develop new ways of learning. Since I've Been a klutz, I have been concentrating on developing grace and physical coordination through activities like darts, rollerblading, tennis, yoga and most recently bellydancing. You never know what the coming year brings. As well as for my mind, I have been focusing on musical instruments (can successfully torture anyone with the accordion now), writing little stories, understanding how to color with oil pastels, computer graphics,Woolrich Arctic Jacket, and generally which makes it a place to understand enough about something totally new that I have a little bit of an understanding of them. I'm thinking my next project may be geometry, as I haven't messed with math for 20 years. Sometimes really diligently at this stuff until I reach a particular level of proficiency, then proceed to the following project while still giving that old ones sufficient focus on maintain them. Another advantage is the fact that after i finally possess the time to spend doing things i please (quite a ways off,http://rogervivieronlinesale.olimx.com/, still) I'll have plenty of hobbies begun that I can occupy myself with, instead of sitting in front of a TV and waiting for my next meal. And meanwhile,http://rogervivierheelssale.webstarts.com/, life is awfully interesting.
I like your approach to life. And you're simply perfectly correct - the secret is to keep on learning. I began into cross-stitch at the chronilogical age of 65 and have made many pictures since then, quite a few which I have sold - to help pay for the hobby. I used picture framing 4 years back at the age of 71 to frame my cross stitch pictures. I took up yoga 24 months ago, and calligraphy this past year (most of which I have framed and sold!). It's about 48 years since I last played piano accordion. However i am currently struggling through a book about quantum theory which is stretching my brain towards the limits. What are you after trying next?
Material possess the physical side of things well at hand - Let me help you belly dancing - not something which men occupy could it be? So that as 'Mother of God' you've obviously tried the best exercise. About the mental tack, if you are interested in geometry why not go for an open university degree in maths. Or - because you describe it as 'math' have you been about the West side from the Atlantic? Have you got the same as our evening class system? Or since you are into computing have you tried programming? Are you able to sing? I had twenty years singing Barbershop Harmony that was a complete change to playing musical instruments.
I'm within the united states, where advanced degrees DON'T come cheap. Though basically had the funds to work on a masters, it would be either in literature or philosophy. LOL more letters I possibly could tag behind my name if I chose to, that would have absolutely no effect on how I earn my living. I simply dabble with one of these hobbies--gain a degree of proficiency that i am happy with, then move on. I do not feel the need to become a specialist. I'm more the "creative" type than "structured", among my buddies so delicately put it, so learning programming wouldn't suit my temperament. I tend to blast on through things with hardly any regard for details like rules and instructions. Basically go after geometry that'll about push the limits on discipline. Singing would be great! Unfortunately, that just isn't among my talents. Not really close. During my schooldays (plenty of years back) we studied america quite a bit however i only got to visit there twice after i was with family in Vacouver, Canada. Can one ask which state you reside in? I will be in Vancouver in June for a few days - I did get as far as your Vancouver some years back and briefly into Portland, Oregon. Nice country.
I'm in Fort Lauderdale,Woolrich Parka Schweiz Online Shop, Florida. Very different from Oregon! But I love residing in the tropics. Wouldn't trade it for anything. I discovered when I moved away for some time which i need to be close to the ocean. Life seriously isn't as rich, somehow,Femmes Doudoune Duvetica, after i can't begin to see the sunset on the water. I'll search for Dr. de Bono's books. May be right up my alley. Thanks! I was just in the bookshop a couple hours ago--wish I'd seen this before I went. And geometry probably isn't going to fill me with passion, but disciplined thinking and logic (in small doses) is a good thing. hehehe I understand I can Get it done. but when I tell my dad he'll disappear his chair. What exactly are you likely to do in Vancouver?
It is our 50th wedding anniversary on 12 June and that we shouldn't host a party with friends, family, neighbours etc. Just where would you stop? And also the friend you missed is not a friend anymore - a whole lot worse when they are family! My spouse has always wanted to have a coach or train with the rockies so we said "Blow having a party, we'll do the coast to coast Canada tour instead" So there it is - we leave on 4th June for 17 days, giuseppe zanotti sneakers, drop out from the tour in Toronto for 3 days (Missing Niagara which we have seen) to go to our son in Toronto. Then in Vancouver we encounter my Neice and Nephew with their families on a few of the spare time. Only then do we travel by coach through the Rockies to Jasper and fly home. We live in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North of England - lovely country but far too cold for somebody in the deep South of USA. Since speaking with you I've dug out my De Bono books to read again - perhaps we can trade comments when you begin to read them? I love being beside the water too - we caravan (trailer van) on the West coast of Scotland every year and find out some wonderful sunsets over the sea and the island of Skye. We'll go in August when we overcome the Caanada trip!
Sounds like an excellent way to have a 50th anniversary! An adventure, no stress. I'll attempt to make my method to the bookshop this Sunday and find out should they have the de Bono books. Would look forward to having someone to discuss all of them with. That was my favorite part of as being a student at the university--reading, exchanging ideas using the others. It always made the reading a lot more interesting when someone else noticed stuff that I hadn't. Or viewed it from a differing perspective. I miss that a lot.
I look forward to being able to discus Lateral Thinking with you - I don't know anyone here to talk to about the subject. The first one to see is,"The use of lateral thinking" by which he introduces the topic - I've just re-read it since speaking with you. You mention having attended University - what subjects did you do there? I didn't get the chance to go to university - I left school and served articles with the local Engineer and Surveyor, roger vivier heels online, studying in the evenings but finally went to become a Civil Engineer. I still do small design jobs when I could possibly get them to keep stirring up the grey matter and set a little butter about the bread. Keep your old skills as much as scratch in addition to develop brand new ones. How do you make those little faces? Alone I ever tried was
I popped into the bookstore yesterday and picked up "The 5-Day Course In Thinking". They did not have others on hand. That one looks like a number of puzzles to solve--haven't had time to check out it properly yet. But I'll order the other you suggested. Shouldn't take too much time to obtain here. I also sat on the ground for some time and checked out some geometry books. *sigh* None of them looked as though these were the type of thing that may hold my interest. I'm going to pose the question, whether anyone knows of a book that would work with a person like me on ASK h2g2. That's a great place to visit, roger vivier heels store, by the way, if you are seeking conversation about virtually anything, such as the know who to talk to. Someone's bound to detect anything you put there. When I first started using h2g2 I had an issue with a peeping Tom and I requested help getting a solution. I was surprised about the responses I acquired. Some were pretty funny, plus some I used. I studied German literature at University of Florida having a minor in education. Was likely to be considered a German teacher for high school, however the internship cured me of that notion. Now, through insufficient use, I barely speak German (mix it with Spanish when I try) though I can still read and view the language. I keep meaning to start reading aloud for 25 minutes daily, as that will take it back to me, however i never appear to prioritize time.
I usually desired to learn German at school but the school only taught French and Latin. And as i was at war with Germany my opinion was not popular. After Three years Latin I managed 9% during my end of term exams and was placed on to extra mathematics instead. I passed my final exams in French but with a hopeless Tyneside accent - when we started to holiday in France I'd to learn the correct pronunciation quickly! I found in Germany that very many people spoke English. Thanks for the smilies - I'm off now to possess a look at them,Woolrich Damen.
Hiya! Please learn web designing and become participating in the web and teach us young whippersnappers some things! Lateral thinking: Edward de Bono is the guy who came up with that, and also he has determined all 'thinking tools'. He has his own website dedicated to these thinking skills and concepts. If you're interested, type 'Edward de Bono' into Google, or navigate to the Utopia Cafébar (due to the BBC policy I can't put the link here, hut you can find the link presents itself my userpage) and you can access his website from the Cafébar's Resource Page. I don't really apply De Bono's ideas rigorously but I do discover that it will help to do something to keep your brain in good order. Online there are many sites devoted to improving mindpower. Of course it's not much use simply to train your brain, you also have to apply its new powers! Anyways I also am getting at that I think the mind can keep improving indefinitely throughout life, and seniors may be easily much smarter than young adults!
Welcome back! Did you enjoy the trip? Let me know relating to this adventure--I need a virtual vacation. Haven't started reading yet (slap me, I know I promised.) I have been going nuts between work and also the classes I started, not accustomed to having deadlines during my personal time. It's that ol' discipline thing, I guess. I need to either quit sleep or h2g2. Not a hard decision. After all, working in cosmetics,Woolrich Arctic Parka, I can fix those dark circles and bags under my eyes until they droop right down to my knees. Oy vey, really must wrench myself away and go finish those lessons, though.
