Grambling State fires Doug Williams as football coach
GRAMBLING, La., Sept. 11 () -- Doug Williams was fired Wednesday as the Grambling State football coach, ending his second tenure in the position.The Tigers are 0-2 this season going into a game Saturday against Lincoln University at Kansas City, Mo. Overall the Tigers have lost 12 of their last 13 since winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference title in Williams' first season since he returned to coach at Grambling."We recognize Doug Williams' many contributions to our football legacy," Grambling State President Frank Pogue said, "and we express our deep appreciation for his service to Grambling State University and we wish him well in the future."Williams, 58, was the quarterback at Grambling State under legendary Coach Eddie Robinson and succeeded Robinson as coach from 1998-2003. He returned as coach in 2011. His overall coaching record is 61-34, winning the SWAC championship four times.Williams is best known for his nine-year NFL career during which he led the Washington Redskins to a win in Super Bowl XXII,[url=http://www.moncleroutleto.co.uk]moncler uk[/url], the first African-American quarterback to do so.
