Rex Ryan repeated much of what he had said about the New York Jets’ quarterback situation after the debacle of Saturday night’s win over the Giants—just with much less animation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The message still was that he was not ready to announce whether rookie or injured , would start the regular-season opener.

“Again, there are several factors that we’re focused on. But for me to go into them now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I’d just as soon wait and see how it plays out and make that determination later,’’ Ryan told reporters at a packed press conference, televised and streamed live, on Monday afternoon.
Ryan repeated that, from the start of training camp, “There is no timetable on naming a starting quarterback.’’
However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he said, or play in the preseason finale against Philadelphia on Thursday, because of the right shoulder injury he suffered late in the fourth quarter Saturday—after Ryan put him into the game with second- and third-stringers, reportedly without Sanchez expecting to play. Ryan described his condition as still “day to day.”
FANTASY:
And the coach described his own thoughts as still unapologetic—about his decision to use Sanchez then,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and about his words, tone and action after Saturday’s game, featuring heated exchanges, refusal to answer questions and, eventually, theatrically turning from side to side while answering.
“I’ve addressed that already; you know exactly how I feel about that,’’ he said late in the 20-minute press conference. “Do I regret that he got injured? Of course. But I’m not gonna say anything more about that, because I think I’ve covered it already.’’
Asked if management or owner Woody Johnson had spoken to him about his actions at the post-game press conference, Ryan said, “Absolutely not.’’
NY DAILY NEWS:
However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he did say that he and general manager John Idzik—routinely described as at-odds on personnel decisions and on which quarterback should start – as “really, like, shoulder-to-shoulder on decisions we make.’’
The two were “side-by-side,’’ he repeated, on “who plays, making the team, all of those things.’’
Ryan called Smith’s performance in his first start “the good, the bad and the ugly.” The ugly was the safety in which Smith stepped on the back line in the end zone in the fourth quarter; the bad was the three interceptions, although he gave Giants defensive end Justin Tuck a lot of credit for his.
“It certainly wasn’t perfect,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],’’ Ryan added, “but there were a lot of good things, too.”
