Geelong captain Joel Selwood says he has big shoes to fill,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Selwood was anointed a future leader almost as soon as he walked into Skilled Stadium as a teenager when drafted by the Cats in the first round in 2006.
But Selwood's leadership credentials were made official yesterday when he was named Geelong's new captain, replacing Cameron Ling,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who retired after last year's Grand Final win.
Fellow midfield star Jimmy Bartel was named vice-captain, with James Kelly, Joel Corey, Corey Enright,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Harry Taylor and Steve Johnson named in the leadership group.
It is the first time Johnson has been included in the player leadership group.
Selwood admitted he had big shoes to fill following in the footsteps of Ling and Tom Harley.
"They're probably two of the best captains the football club has ever had and maybe even throughout the AFL's history,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Selwood,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who grew up supporting the Cats.
"There is pressure to stand up to what those guys have done, but we look forward to the challenge as a group to see what we can do.

"They still bleed blue and white and are still proud of the football club and want it to do well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
Selwood, 23, has played in three premierships for the Cats,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is a two-time All-Australian and has been a part of the club's leadership group for three years - vice-captain last year.
Bartel said the gun midfielder was an easy choice.
"Since he walked into the club he had 'captain' written all over him,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Bartel said.
"That goes to all areas; the way he handles himself amongst the group,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his professionalism,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the way he prepares to play,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the way he leads on the field,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the way he attacks the game."
Selwood, who named former Sydney captains Paul Kelly and Brett Kirk as other skippers he admired, said he would let his actions on the field speak.
"I am going to make mistakes along the way and I know that I am going to do that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Selwood said.
"I am probably going to be a captain that is going to be a sponge over the next couple of years while I have got these experienced guys around me."
Johnson said he was looking forward to the extra responsibility.
"My standing in the group has been able to improve over the last three or four years," Johnson said.
